New Cards for @redcapcards by Naoshi, plus how to make sunae art

Guess what, gang? We currently have, in stock, brand new cards by one of our most favorite Red Cap artists, Naoshi. Naoshi was one of the first artists we ever collaborated with, back in 2009. From the first moment we saw her work, we felt that she was a conceptual genius! With such a playful and colorful viewpoint, and her dedication to keeping the artform of Sunae (or Japanese “sand art”) alive, we absolutely could not pass her up. Check out this old post we did that shows the process of Sunae.

Naoshi says of herself and her work:

“I'm an artist based in Los Angeles, USA. I moved to Los Angeles on March 2014, and will be staying here for a year! Using shiny colorful sand (it's called Sunae in Japan), I make art portraying surreal people living in a real world with various everyday thoughts and emotions, such as joy, happiness, sorrow, and anxiety.

When I make Sunae, I'm always inspired to live life brightly each day just like the sparkly shiny sand that gracefully slips through my hands and fingers. It is a very unique and meaningful material for me to work with, and I enjoy it very much.

I began making Sunae in 2004. Since 2007, I've been participating in a wide range of art projects/exhibits outside of Japan, including United States, Italy, France, Switzerland, Korea etc. My ultimate goal is to familiarize people with Sunae around the world!

And without further adieu, the lovely Naoshi and her inspiring art form in action:
